President Peter Mutharika will attend the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly

He is expected to leave on Monday, September 21, for New York, United States of America.

According to the State House, the major priority of the assembly is to ensure member states move swiftly to deliver on the promises being made for sustainable development.The president is expected to depart Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe at 3:50 in the afternoon, said State House press officer Gloria Masanza in a statement issued on Sunday.

This year’s agenda consists of 17 Sustainable Development Goals – SGDs, and 169 targets will stimulate action over the next 15 years in areas of critical importance in building a more equitable and sustainable world for all.The SDGs replace the Millennium Development Goals – MDGs – which expire this month. Malawi is one of themany countries that have not achievedmost of the MDGs.
