TRAINING PROGRAMMES IN DIPLOMA IN EDUCATION (SECONDARY) TENABLE AT DOMASI COLLEGE OF EDUCATION IN OCTOBER, 2015 THROUGH FACE-TO-FACE (RESIDENTIAL) MODE OF DELIVERY

1. Applications are invited from suitably
qualified Malawians for a three year
residential training course leading, on
successful completion, to a Diploma in
Education in Science or Humanities.
2. Entry Requirements
Applicants must:
a) Be school leavers who are holders of a
Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE)
or its equivalent obtained in 2012, 2013or
2014 with credits in six subjects including
English / English Language and an
aggregate of not more than ten (10) points
in the two teaching subjects for which they
are applying for; both of which must be
either distinctions; credits or credit and
distinction. Applicants should not be more
than 50 years of age.
OR
b) Be serving qualified primary school
teachers with a minimum of five (5) years of
teaching experience as qualified teachers at
that level. They should also be holders of a
Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE)
or its equivalent obtained within the past
ten years (2005-2014) with credits in six
subjects including English / English
language. Applicants should not be more
than 50 years of age.
3. Programmes
The details of the programmes tenable at
Domasi College of Education are as follows:
Programme A: Diploma in Education
(Science)
(i) Mathematics and Biology
(ii) Mathematics and Physical Science
(iii) Mathematics and Agriculture
(iv) Mathematics and Physical Education
(v) Biology and Physical Education
(vi) Human Ecology (Home Economics) and
Agriculture
(vii) Human Ecology (Home Economics) and
Biology
(viii) Human Ecology (Home Economics) and
Mathematics.
(ix) Biology and Agriculture
Applicants for combinations (i), (ii) (iii) and
(iv) must have at least credits in English/
English Language, Mathematics, Biology and
Physical Science/General Science and any
other two subjects.
Due to the rigour of the Physical Education
practicals, only those who are medically and
physically fit should apply for combinations
(iv) and (v). Shortlisted applicants will be
required to sign a consent form.
Applicants for combination (vi), (vii), (viii)
and (ix) must have at least credits in
English /English Language, Mathematics and
any other four subjects, two of which
should be the following: Biology, Home
Economics, Physical Science/General Science
and Agriculture.
Successful candidates will be required to
study all sciences and mathematics subjects
in year one.
Programme B: Diploma in Education
(Humanities)
(i) English and Linguistics and African
Languages
(ii) English and French
(iii) French and Linguistics and African
Languages
(iv) Geography and Social Studies
(v) History and Theology and Religious
Studies
Applicants for option i to iii must have
credits in Chichewa and English /English
Languages and any other four (4) subjects.
Those opting for French should also have a
credit in French.
Applicants for option iv to v must have at
least credits in English / English Language
and any other five subjects including two of
the following: Bible Knowledge, Geography,
History, Life Skills, Social and Development
Studies, Chichewa and French.
4. All short listed applicants will be required
to sit for an aptitude test in 3 papers:
Numerical, Communication and Reasoning
skills.
5. Training Conditions
(i) Both serving teachers and school leavers
will be required to pay a financial
contribution as determined by government
from time to time. Applicants should note
that the Ministry is in the process of
reviewing tuition fees for teacher trainees.
Therefore interested candidates must be
willing to pay much higher fees which the
Ministry will announce at a later date.
(ii) Domasi College of Education will not pay
training allowances to all students.
6. Methods of application
Applicants should apply for ONE programme
only clearly indicating:
(i) Which programme they are applying for;
(ii) The two preferred teaching subjects;
(iii) Actual MSCE (or its equivalent) grades in
all subjects, with dates when they were
obtained. Grades from 2 certificates will not
be allowed.
(iv) MSCE Examination number
(v) Years of service and Teaching Certificate
Number (for serving teachers only); and
(vi) Age
Serving teachers in public schools should
submit their applications through their
employer i.e. District Education Managers.
Those in private schools should apply
through their employer.
7. Processing fee
All applicants are required to pay a non
refundable processing fee of Four Thousand
Kwacha (K4,000.00). The processing fee
should be deposited directly into the
following bank account:
