Mwayi Kumwenda withdraws from Queens’s squad

Malawi’s professional netballer
Mwayi Kumwenda has
withdrawn from the national
netball team training camp as
she is going for a medical
operation in South Africa to heal
her ailing tooth.
Kumwenda was included in a 13
member list squad released by
the Netball Association of Malawi
on Tuesday to go into camp for
Fast Five Netball Series in New
Zealand next month.
However, Kumwenda excused
herself from joining her
teammates.
“I have a problem on my ailing
tooth and the time these girls will
be going into camp, I will be
away in South Africa for an
operation,” said Kumwenda.
The tall shooter said she could
have loved to be part of the trip
but insisted she has to go and
seek medica help.
“I wish them well as they
prepare for the tournament. It’s
sad that I will not be part of the
team but all the best in New
Zealand,” she concluded.
But sources close to Malawi24
have confided that Kumwenda’s
absence has something to do
with allowances. The sources
have revealed that Kumwenda is
not happy with what NAM has
been doing for the past games
where the association has failed
to pay the players their
allowances.
It is believed that Kumwenda will
not be leaving for South Africa,
rather, she is reluctant to join the
team because of an outstanding
allowances with the Netball
Association.
However, efforts to speak to
NAM’s general secretary proved
futile as her phone went an
answered.
The team will leave for New
Zealand on 5th November 2014
