Morocco withdraws from hosting 2015 Afcon due to Ebola

Morocco has finally
withdrawn from hosting
the 2015 Africa Cup of
Nations due to prevalent
fear of Ebola, which has
ravaged a number of
African nations over the last
few months.
Morocco last week
requested the
Confederation of African
Football (CAF) to postpone
the tournament due to the
fear of Ebola, which is said
to be spreading across its
territories but CAF rejected
the proposal.
They requested that the
Nations Cup be moved to
2016 or the 2015 hosting
rights be given to another
country and that the 2017
edition be reserved for
them.
But CAF rejected all the
requests, forcing the
country to pull out of the
tournament.
Morocco will likely be
sanctioned with all its clubs
and national teams banned
from continental activities
until the regulatory body
decide otherwise.
Meanwhile, South Africa is
tipped as the host of 2015
Afcon after South Africa
Football Association (SAFA)
President Danny Jordan met
with CAF’s committee to
discuss the matter.
2015 Afcon is scheduled to
take place between January
17th to February 8th 2015.
